Shirley Muldowney, American Top Gas, Funny Car, and match racer, was the first woman to receive a license from the National Hot Rod Association to drive a Top Fuel dragster.

She won 18 NHRA national events. She was the first person to win two and three of drag racing’s most prestigious titles, Top Fuel, back-to-back.

She has been voted into the Auto Racing All-American Team five times, inducted into the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America, the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, and the Automotive Hall of Fame.

Shirley Muldowney’s charity, “Shirley’s Kids”, helps children in need in cities where drag racing is part of the community.

Longtime drag racer Fred Farndon described Muldowney as the “best ‘natural’ driver (top fuel or funny car), no question.”

Shirley spoke at the Automobile Driving Museum during our “Women In Speed” event in 2017. She fired up her 1986 Top Fuel dragster in the parking lot, to the thrill of fans new and old.
