[column grid=”2″ span=”1″] William Durant founded General Motors but over the years he ended up losing GM, not once, but twice. In 1921 he started Durant Motors along the same lines as GM. Durant’s prestige car was the Locomobile. The Durant car was up-market competing with Buick and Cadillac.
The Durant car produced between 1921 and 1932 had problems mainly in the area of management as Durant himself was all over the map acquiring other makes and trucks which overextended his personal capital and attention to production. With that and the 1929 market crash it was only a matter of time for things to go from bad to worse. In 1936 Durant filed personal bankruptcy. Claiming only the clothes on his back, Durant died in 1947 at the age of 85, destitute, managing a bowling alley in Flint, MI.
