The Great Race Visits the ADM Automobile Driving Museum

The Automobile Driving Museum is proud to host the Great Race competitors and fans of the race. The Hemmings Motor News Great Race presented by Hagerty has its finish line in Santa Monica on Sunday, June 28th, 2015. The ADM will be especially open on Monday, June 29th, 2015 (normally a closed day for the museum) for competitors of the race to see the rare car collection. Racers and spectators are invited and encouraged to bring their vintage race cars for display and pictures. Special docent tours of museum will be available for guests from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The Great Race (formerly known as the Great American Race) is a classic rally for street-legal vintage automobiles at least 45 years old. Vehicles must use original factory parts, and modern navigational aids like GPS are prohibited.

This is a precision pace race, not a high-speed race. Points are awarded on the accuracy of a driver and navigator to match a time and average speed over a predetermined course. Points are also awarded on a handicap system that awards bonus points to older vehicles. Prizes are awarded in several categories, including the “X-Cup” for high school teams.

The ADM was proud to be part of this historic car race and was given the opportunity to present the “Hard Luck Trophy”, a trophy given to the competitor with the most hardship on the race.
